As the world is confronted by multiple, overlapping and escalating crises — climate breakdown, deepening poverty, rising inequalities, crushing debt burdens, and shrinking democratic spaces – we are all faced with two related challenges:
- Mobilizing urgently needed financial resources at the necessary scale and speed and in ways that are just, equitable, and accountable – not only to survive the multiple crises but to build a new and better world, and
- Making profound changes in the international financial system not only to mobilize finance but to stop the enormous and continuing hemorrhaging of wealth and natural resources from the Global South to the Global North. If this is not stopped, mobilization of finance for the Global South will have little impact.
Now more than ever, our solidarity and collective action are needed. This world is ours; we must escalate our fights to reclaim it, defend our rights, rise for justice, and change the system so that the needs, interests, rights, and aspirations of peoples everywhere are prioritized over the profits of corporations and the excess of elites.
This June, governments gathered for a series of meetings, beginning with the UNFCCC Intersessionals in Bonn, Germany, the G7 Summit in Canada, and concluding with the 4th UN Financing for Development Conference in Seville, Spain. We seized this moment to demand the delivery of finance and the transformation of the international financial system—for reparations, economic justice, and climate action.
Our world may be in crisis, but together, we can build the power needed to address immediate demands and pursue systemic change at the local, national, and global levels.
This June, we carried demands and slogans addressed to all governments, but especially those from the Global North!

- Global North – Fulfill your obligations to deliver Climate Finance for the Global South!
- Climate Finance must be public, new and additional, and non debt creating!
- Tax excessive wealth, profiteering, and harmful businesses
- Tax the Rich not the Poor!

- Cancellation of all public debts by all lenders – bilateral, multilateral and private – for all countries in need with no conditions!
- Immediate cancellation of all illegitimate debts incurred from harmful lending
- Public Finance Must Lead!
- Change the rules and practices of lending and borrowing! Establish a democratic and equitable multilateral UN Framework Convention on Debt
- Overhaul the international tax architecture! Establish a UN Framework Tax Convention on International Tax Cooperation for inclusive, fair, transparent, efficient, equitable and effective international tax system!
- Regulate international capital flows, speculative activities, financial instruments and international financial agents!
- Recast or replace international financial institutions with democratic & equitable global governance bodies!
- Establish international and national Mechanisms for Just Transition to accelerate, consolidate and achieve a holistic Just Transition across whole economic and financial systems
We urged you to organize or join marches and actions in front of embassies and consulates of Global North governments, offices of international financial institutions, offices of your governments—wherever the power lay—calling for the delivery of finance and the transformation of the international financial system—for reparations, economic justice, and climate action.
We answered the call, raised our voices and delivered the message with power and conviction!

In the days leading up to the Global Days of Action, we made steady noise online and stormed social media platforms—a digital strong drumbeat to demand justice and inspire more people to take action. This was our chance to shift the narrative, raise our collective demands, and show that a powerful global movement was rising. Each day, we focused on a specific theme to highlight our calls. We joined by posting, sharing, and amplifying the messages using our hashtags and materials provided in the social media toolkit.
