From Belém to Antalya, peoples’ movements are rising up to end dirty energy and embark on a global just transition to a fossil-free future.
Our world is at a critical juncture, as our people and communities grapple with deepening crises: climate and ecological breakdown, escalating war and militarization, rising food and energy prices. We have a window of opportunity to secure a safe and sustainable future–free from the tyranny of fossil fuel interests, with decent and dignified work for all–but that window is rapidly closing. Now more than ever, collective action is needed to achieve our vision of a just and equitable fossil-free world.
This September, governments will gather in New York for the 81st UN General Assembly (UNGA 81), four months after adopting a resolution affirming the ICJ AO on states’ obligations to prevent climate harm and pay reparations. This is a vital opportunity to demand that governments enforce the ICJ AO, dismantle the fossil fuel system, achieve a global just transition, and deliver full reparations to affected countries and communities, including Indigenous Peoples and Afro-Descendants.
From September 14 to 20, civil society and people’s movements will mobilize in Asia, Africa, Europe, North and Latin America, as part of an arc of globally coordinated mobilizations during key moments, including the IMF-WB Annual Meetings, COP31, and the G20 Summit. Together, we can build the power to reclaim our world from those who seek only to extract its wealth and profit at the expense of our people and communities.
We urge movements, organizations, and communities to hold and/or join activities and actions from September 14 to 20.
Major mobilizations shall take place from September 18 to 20.
Our 10 Demands for a Fossil-Free Future:
5. Deliver climate finance to the Global South
Global North governments must deliver trillions in public, predictable, non-debt-creating, new and additional climate finance to the Global South. Enact permanent, structural global and national tax justice measures, such as wealth and windfall profit taxes, to help finance the transition. Reduce military spending and redirect to climate action and justice. End fossil fuel subsidies. Cancel illegitimate debts from fossil fuels.

3. A direct transition to 100% renewable energy for all.
We demand a direct and just transition to 100% renewable energy, with sufficient, affordable, and reliable access for all. Prioritize publicly and community-owned distributed energy systems. Protect the rights of Indigenous Peoples, Afro-Descendants, and affected communities, including the right to Free, Prior, and Informed Consent.
4. Stop greenwashing and false solutions.
We demand an end to the promotion and financing of false solutions, such as carbon markets and offsets, carbon capture and storage, ammonia co-firing, and geoengineering. Stop promoting false “clean energy”, including nuclear power, destructive hydropower, and large-scale biofuels. No to gas as a transition fuel. Ban high-carbon advertising for luxury products that are exacerbating the climate crisis, such as fossil tourism and energy-intensive cars.
1. No new fossil fuels.
We demand an immediate end to fossil fuel expansion. No new approvals, licenses, permits, infrastructure, exports, or extensions for the fossil fuel industry. No new finance–public or private–for coal, oil, and gas. Halt Big Tech’s buildout of new fossil-fueled and nuclear-powered data centers.
2. A rapid, just, equitable phaseout
of all existing fossil fuel infrastructure, aligned with the goals of keeping temperature rise below 1.5C and reaching global real zero emissions by 2050. Phaseout timelines must differ according to the principles of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities and Equity, with the Global North phasing out first and fastest.
